When we then read about cork, we were absolutely thrilled.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eWith most materials, their use has varying degrees of impact on the ecosystem, and the best approach remains the sparing use of resources. Cork, however, is different. No trees are felled to produce cork; instead, the cork oak is stripped of its bark. This process can be repeated every 8-12 years for a single tree. Not only is the tree unharmed, but it's actually beneficial for it. And it benefits the entire ecosystem of cork oak forests, where entire families make a living from cork harvesting and thus maintain these forests. Since fewer and fewer cork stoppers are used in wine bottles, there are current concerns that some centuries-old cork oak forests will be felled.
